Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

From the left: Akemi Homura, Mami Tomoe, Kyuubey, Miki Sayaka and Kaname Madoka.

"OMG a mahou shoujo series! It must have a lot of cute loli girls(some even 10 years old. 17 is a no-no. Pedobear doesn't like it.) fighting evil monsters with magical powers! AND.THEY.MUST.HAVE.COOL.STAFFSSSSS! They are sure to show some naked transformation scenes and moe and yuri scenes! Ah my eyesssss!"

The statement above shows the typical reaction of otakus (usually consist of perv men.) when seeing the word, "Mahou Shoujo" AKA Magical Girls. Yes, I watched enough anime to know what they means xD

BUT NOOOOO. Madoka Magica is not that series at allllll. No moe moe scenes. Not much transformation scenes. And lastly, no magical staff designs to look at.

Huh? Then why is it called Mahou Shoujo?!

Relax, o brethren. For this anime is animated by Shaft and scripted by Urobochi Gen! Character design by Aoki Ume.

Shaft is well known for their unique way of animating stuff. Urobochi? Known for his gory plot twists. I know not much of Aoki except she's the one incharge of Hidamari Sketch?

SPOILERS.

Madoka Magica is really... a very plot twist and kinda shocking anime. First we see Madoka Kaname, a normal 14 year old girl with a normal life suddenly meets Kyubey in an accident bla bla was asked to be Puella Magi bla bla met other Puella Magi as well bla bla. HOWEVER! Around episode 3, their Puella Magi senior got beheaded. Then it hit. 2chan was like OMG and the anime community mourned for her loss. Then came the next roller coaster. Puella Magi are  zombies with their souls ripped out to form the Soul Gem, Puella Magi's source of magic. And that's not all! Apparently the girls turn to witches when their Soul Gem is not purified by Grief Seeds. So the shock keep coming and coming and all the anime fans mourned for both Sayaka and Kyouko's death. In conclusion, almost everyone died except the two main chara now.

Gosh so many things to talk about. You gotta watch the anime to know more! There's 12 episode and so far, 10 is already out with 11 and 12 delayed due to earthquake in Japan.

The art for the witch labyrinth in episode 3:

The art is really unique. It's surreal and some real life elements implemented. Once inawhile, you'll spot some foreign language like german or english or some poem excerpts.

Witch at episode 9:

This is totally unrelated: Maria Holic opening by Shaft. I loved it! And oh please remember this is art, not some perv video.

I really really admire Japan's take on multimedia. They can make it so artsy, creative and meaningful at the same time! I wanna make videos like that too in the future.
